Matthew H. Fritz age 92, lifelong Meade Twp. farmer died Thursday afternoon, February 5, at Courtney Manor, Bad Axe.
He was born November 29, 1922 in Brookfield Twp.at the home of his parents the late Charles and Louise (Steinman) Fritz.
He was united in marriage to Margaret Bambach May 18, 1946 at St Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog.
Matt served in the US Army during WW II. He farmed all his life, and also worked at the Box Factory in Elkton for over twenty years and then at Michigan Sugar Company, Sebewaing for fifteen years before retiring in 1987.
Both he and Margaret enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, he also enjoyed watching and feeding deer in his yard. Margaret preceded him in death, December 15, 2009
Surviving are two daughters, Joan McPhail of Owendale and Jean Logue of Caro; five grandchildren, Michelle (Andrew) O’Hern, James (Michelle) Grannell, Shawn Grannell, Kelly (Daniel) Albin, and Michelle (John) McAlloon; eight great grandchildren, Alisha, Leigh, Ashley, James, Loren, J. J., Nicole and Christopher; three great great grandchildren, Noah, Jacob and Gabriel; siblings, Luella Ewald and Richard Fritz both of Elkton; sisters-in-law, Leona Fritz of Elkton, Joyce Fritz of Zepherhills, FL, Eleanor Bambach and Mary Bambach both of Bad Axe.
Preceding him in death were son-in-law, Robert McPhail; great grandson, Jason McAlloon; siblings, Norman, Leonard, Otis, Wallace, Willard and Calvin Fritz, Aldine Ewald and Vernita Schuster.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, February 9, at Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. Rev. Ean Green, pastor and Rev. Wm. O’nan will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 PM Sunday and at the church after 10 AM Monday.
