Maureen E. Riley of Caro, age 68, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2019 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Maureen was born March 23, 1951 in Caro, the daughter of the late Orlo Keith & Elizabeth Dorothy (Pierog) Riley. She graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1969 and continued her studies to become a registered nurse at Grace Hospital in Detroit, graduating in 1973. Maureen later attended the University of Puget Sound in Washington where she earned a degree in psychology in 1978, the University of Maryland with a degree in German in 1988, and finally Glassboro State College in New Jersey with a degree in school nursing. She was employed with the Family Independence Agency with the State of Michigan before beginning a fifteen year career as a registered nurse at the Caro Center, retiring in 2012. An active mother of four children, Maureen was Caro's first girls varsity soccer coach, a girl scout troop leader and camp nurse. She was happiest when she could be with family and cherished time spent with her grandchildren. Maureen is survived by four children and their spouses, David & Julie Westhaus of Mt. Pleasant, Kate & Tim Flintoft of Yokosuka, Japan, Andy Westhaus and fianc, Jessica Fremd, of Swartz Creek, Kiley Nichol of Caro; eleven grandchildren, Anna, Ben, Leyna, Lukas, Norah, Natalie, Diedrick, Delilah, Emma, Bristol, and Rhodry; lifelong friend, Curtis Chambers of Caro; siblings and their spouses, Greg & Sharon Riley of Presque Isle, Janice & Robert Osborn of Caro, Julie & Jim Matuszak of Caro, John & Hope Riley of Caro, Brian Riley of Caro; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Maureen was preceded in death by a grandson, Hazen Nichol; and siblings, Patricia Brady and Michael Riley. In keeping with Maureen's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro.
