Max E. McKenzie, 92, of Elkton, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at United Hospice in Marlette.
Max was born December 26, 1930 in Cass City to the late Franklin and Ethel (Western) McKenzie. In 1949 he graduated from Ubly High School. He married Doris Varney on October 15, 1955 at the Redman Presbyterian Church.
Max was raised on a family dairy farm and took over when his father died. Later he owned and operated McKenzie Gifts and Sundries and the Lunch Bucket Restaurant in Elkton, retiring in 1988. After retirement he enjoyed selling antiques and running estate sales with Judy Ginter. Max was active in his community, having participated with 4-H, Elkton Rotary, Elkton Village Treasurer for 22 years, and served in many offices at St. Paul Methodist Church of Elkton. He enjoyed visiting and making friends wherever he went and attending flea markets.
Max is survived by his wife Doris; children Kevin (Starla) of Elkton, Kurt of Elkton, Kent (Lori) of Pigeon and Kendra (Jim) Jickling of Marlette; grandchildren Katherine (James) Valley, Caitlin Eigsti, M. Ryan (Mary) McKenzie, Jessica (Matthew) Pereria, Kristy (Trevor) Carriveau, Jody (Nick) Blaszczyk, Kayle (Tico) Thepsourinthone, Kelsey (Dan Nicol) Jickling, and Kyle Jickling; great-grandchildren Abigail, Isaiah, Nathaniel, Gideon, Aiden, Olivia, Freyja, Autumn, Caden, Khloe, Landon, Palmer, Savannah, Lucy, Wynnie, and Archie Max. He was preceded in death by his infant son Keith.
Funeral services will be at 11:00am Friday, June 16 at St. Paul Methodist Church of Elkton with Rev. Won Kim officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 Thursday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the service at church on Friday.
