June 26, 1942 — October 13, 2016

Maxine F. Kauffman, 74 of Pigeon, passed away at home on Thursday, October 13, 2016 while under hospice care.

She was born to Earl L. and Martha R. (Long) Miller in Midland on June 26, 1942 and was a 1961 graduate of Midland High School. On April 21, 1962 she was united in marriage with William Clayton Kauffman in Midland, and they have celebrated 54 years of marriage.

Maxine dearly loved her grandsons and faithfully attended their school activities and sporting events. She enjoyed reading and cross-stitching; she made the best corned beef casserole and macaroni and cheese. In her early years, Maxine enjoyed gardening, camping, and making homemade ketchup. Maxine suffered with neuropathy since 1976 that limited her activities. She also had multiple bouts with cancer.

She was a faithful member of Pigeon River Mennonite Church, and active with the quilting group. Years ago she taught Sunday School and Bible School.

In addition to her husband, W. Clayton, she is survived by her daughter, Tricia Fritz (special friend Valarian Kanaby) of Bad Axe; her son, Terry Kauffman of Wonder Lake, Illinois; grandsons, Dominic Rosenthal, Colton Rosenthal, and Camryn Fritz; brothers, Lowell (Sue) Miller of Knoxville, Tennessee and Leland (Dorothy) Miller of Goshen, Indiana; many nieces and nephews; special friends and neighbor, Kristie and Mike Steele; and brothers-in-law, Carl (Doreen) Kauffman of Haleyville, Alabama and Lynn (Susie) Kauffman of Middlebury, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Martha Miller; in-laws, William and Alta Kauffman; and brother-in-law, John Kauffman.

The committal service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2016 at Pigeon River Mennonite Cemetery, with memorial service at the Pigeon River Church at 11:00 a.m. Pastor David T. Maurer and Pastor Tom Beachy will officiate.
