Melba J. Sprunger, age 85, of Grant Twp, near Owendale died Wednesday evening, February 6, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility.
She was born January 24, 1923 in Crystal Lake, Montcalm County to the late Ervin and Iva (Kress) Miller. Melba move to Vassar as a teen and graduated from Vassar High School in 1945. After high school she moved to Oliver Twp with her parents to continue the family farm.
On August 8, 1945 she was united in marriage to Oliver F. Sprunger at her parent's home in Grant Twp. and lived in Grant Twp all her married life. Oliver preceded her in death November 17, 1996.
Melba had worked as a waitress at her parent's restaurant in Vassar, when they moved, she became a bookkeeper at the abstract office in Bad Axe for many years, she also had worked at Rapson Plumbing in Bad Axe and later as a cashier at Hartwick Grocery in Cass City for several years.
Melba attended the Owendale United Methodist Church and enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and playing games with her grandsons.
Surviving are two children, Kenneth (Jeanette) Sprunger of Rhodes and Ruth (Tim) Kain of Owendale; five grandsons, Ken (Stacy) Sprunger, Jason and Kyle Sprunger, Nathan and Tim Kain; a great grandson, Dawson Sprunger and her brother, Gerald (Ruth) Miller of Caro.
Preceding her in death was a son, James.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, February 8, at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton with burial in Caseville Twp. Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 9 Friday and after 10 Saturday.
Memorials may be directed to the Owendale United Methodist Church.
