Melody Joy Harmon

May 30, 1962 — March 6, 2011

Melody Harmon, age forty-eight went to be with the Lord Sunday afternoon, March 6, at her daughter’s home with her family at her bedside, following a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born May 30, 1962 in Pigeon to Dale and Marilyn (Brakenberry) Schember and grew up in the Pigeon area.
Melody graduated from Laker High School in 1981, and received her Bachelors degree at Clayton College of Natural Health in Holistic Nutrition (High Honors) in January of this year. On July 3, 2002, she was united in marriage to G. Robert Harmon at the Elkton Missionary Church.

After working at Scheurer Hospital for twenty seven years, Melody and her husband felt called by God to serve as missionaries and spent the last two years in support of Bible translation with Wycliffe Associates in the islands of Vanuatu in the south Pacific.
Melody enjoyed time spent with children and grandchildren, traveling with her husband, meeting new people, reading and writing, and recently learning to love snorkeling with her husband. She enjoyed reaching out to others and hopes to be remembered as a loving, caring woman of faith, through whom God’s love shined.

Melody is survived by her husband Robert Harmon; two children; Carissa (Andrew) Alexander of Bay Port and Jarin (Jessie) Smith of New Orleans, LA; two stepchildren: Chad (Michele) Harmon of Hillsdale and Kristi (Ross) Bradbury of Ypsilanti; seven grandchildren; Meghan, Halley, Natalie, Kaitlyn, Brianah, Emma, and Makenna; her mother, Marilyn Smithers of Elkton; father-in-law, George Harmon; her maternal grandmother, Minnie Brakenberry of Elkton; three brothers; Mark (Sharon) Schember of Elkton, Kevin Schember of Bad Axe, Kurt (Lisa) Schember of Bad Axe; her honorary sister, Melissa Thomlinson of Cass City and several nieces and nephews.
Her father, Dale Schember and sister, Dawn Schember preceded her in death.
Funeral celebration service will be conducted at 11 AM, Wednesday, March 9, at the Elkton Missionary Outreach Center, 220 N. Main St, Elkton. There will be time for you to share a word or two regarding how your live has been touched by God through Melody.
Visitation for Melody will be from 2 – 8 pm on Tuesday at Champagne Funeral Chapel, 5495 Pigeon Rd, Elkton, and at the church after 10AM Wednesday.
Per her request her body will be donated for medical research at Michigan State University.
