Melvin Junior Janke, age 84, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017, at Bay County Medical Care Facility in Essexville.
Melvin was born February 13, 1933, in Sebewaing, to Erwin and Alma (Nitz) Janke. He is a veteran of the United States Army. He married Shelby Danks on May 9, 1964, at New Salem Lutheran Church in Sebewaing. She preceded him in death on May 7, 2012. He worked at Michigan Sugar Company in Sebewaing for many years as a Silo Operator. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Sebewaing Lions Club, and member and past Commander at Sebewaing American Legion Post #293. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers, Red Wings and playing cards.
Melvin is survived by his two sons: David Janke of Bay City and Kevin Janke of Essexville; brother, Robert Janke of Bay City; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shelby and son, Michael Janke on September 14, 1997.
Per Melvin's request, cremation has taken place.
A memorial service is planned at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sebewaing on Wednesday, August 2, 2017. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am.
Memorial donations may be given to Leader Dog for the Blind, Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Donor's Choice.
Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Sebewaing.
