Merton John Hendershot, age 78, of Gagetown, passed away Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Courtney Manor Nursing Home in Bad Axe.
Merton was born October 30, 1936, to the late George and Mabele (nee Roberts) Hendershot. He graduated from Cass City High School, Class of 1955. He married Ruth Ann MacAlpine on June 22, 1957, at Owendale United Methodist Church. He retired after 30 years from the Cass City Post Office as a rural mail carrier. He is a retired volunteer fireman of Elmwood Township Fire Department, was a life member of the Masonic Lodge, and avid golfer, enjoyed hunting with his son, and was a member of the Gagetown United Methodist Church where he held many office positions.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Hendershot; children: LuAnn (Ken) Roemer, James (Sara) Hendershot, Cristy (Brian) Schulz; grandchildren: Amy (Ryan) Lowman, Kevin (Kristen) Roemer, Kayla Roemer, Becki (Mike) Leskowich, Jamie Neu, Maegan Hendershot, Jordon Hendershot, Carissa Schulz and Zachary Schulz; great grandchildren: Connor Lowman, Drew Lowman, Morgan Leskowich and Madison Leskowich; siblings: Ruth Harris, Mary (Francis) Withey and Robert (Marjorie) Hendershot.
Proceeded in death by his daughter, Mary Joe Hendershot and great grandson, Hogan Philip Roemer.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial visitation will be held Monday, April 13, 2015, at the Gagetown United Methodist Church from 3-8pm.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2015, at the Gagetown United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am.
Memorial donations may be given to the Gagetown United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.
