Michael John Dean

Michael John Dean of Caro, age 75, passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024, at his home. He was born November 18, 1948, in St. Louis, the son of the late Earl Reginald and Margaret Marie (Anderson) Dean. Mike graduated from Akron-Fairgrove High School with the class of 1968 and went on to study at Michigan State University and Delta College, graduating with a degree in Horticulture. His love for plants and nature was a defining part of his life, leading him to own and operate Dean's Nursery, a greenhouse and landscaping business where he shared his expertise and love of the earth with the community. Mike also worked at the Huron and Eastern Saginaw Valley Railroad in Vassar and the Michigan Sugar Company in Caro.

Beyond his professional life, Mike loved putting together puzzles, was fascinated with trains, and was always willing to help out, especially those in need. He had a special place in his heart for his family and was a proud and loving uncle. Mike loved the time spent with his “circle of friends,” Mike, Sherri, Candy, Amanda, Mike, Karen, and Channon. He was blessed with the best caregivers, his very special niece, Candy Rogner and great-niece, Amanda Goka, and always enjoyed the Walmart trips, he and his favorite brother-in-law, Mike took. Every year Mike looked forward to the annual special Thanksgiving dinner with Corky and the Dean girls, while he may not physically be there this year, we know he will be there in spirit. He was very creative, and with the help of his pal, Mike Popp, he was able to showcase some of his artwork in his home. Mike never lost his love of horticulture as he always enjoyed tending to his plants in the house and yard. Mike’s nurturing spirit and the love he gave will remain in the hearts of his family forever.

Mike leaves to cherish his memory, siblings, Thomas (Dawn) Dean of South Carolina and Sherri (Mike) Hoy of Caro; sister-in-law, Corky Dean of Caro; very special niece, Candy Rogner and special great-niece, Amanda Goka; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews; special friends, Mike & Karen Popp. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Dierck Dean.

In keeping with Mike’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at Indianfields Twp. Cemetery in the near future. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the wishes of the family, c/o Cheryl Hoy, 205 West Sherman Street, Caro, MI 48723, who will continue Mike’s legacy and donate to organizations he believed in.
