Michael Peter Kubiak of Caro, age 80, passed away on Friday, October 9, 2026 while at home. He was born on September 9, 1946 in Detroit, the son of the late Sylvester and Helen (Zakalata) Kubiak.
Mike attended Laker High School and graduated with the Class of 1964. He continued his education at Ferris State University for one year before beginning his career at Saginaw Steering Gear, Plant Six, where he worked until his retirement in 1996. Never one to sit idle, Mike went on to become a bus driver for Caro Community Schools, where he was proudly known as the driver of the Duck Bus. He truly enjoyed his time behind the wheel and the many children he had the pleasure of getting to know along the way. Mike often remarked that young children had the best perspectives on life and that no two children ever saw the world quite the same way. His time as a bus driver brought him just as much joy as he brought to the students who rode his bus.
Mike was also a man of strong faith and a devoted Christian. He was a longtime member of Colwood Community Church, where he faithfully served as an usher. His church family and the friendships he made there were an important part of his life. Mike's dedication to his faith and his willingness to serve others made him a valued member of the congregation, and his presence will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish Mike’s memory are his children, Matthew (Ericka) Kubiak, Tim Kubiak, Mark (Joy) Kubiak, and Cherie (Chris) Bolinger; grandchildren, Allison, Emma, Isaac, Samuel, Clarissa, and Ace; siblings, Sylvester & Sherri Kubiak and Daniel Kubiak; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his siblings, Patrick Kubiak, Kathleen Emery, Jean Downing, and baby brother Lenny Kubiak.
A service announcement will be posted at a later date. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to Colwood Church.
