Michael Martinez of Caro, age 68, journeyed to his heavenly home on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Medilodge of Cass City.
Mike (Pops) was born in Bad Axe on November 28th, 1956. He was one of nine children born to the late Cirilo & Pauline (Sturgis) Martinez.
After graduating high school, Michael Martinez proudly joined the United States Army, where he served as a Private E4 from December 1975 to December 1978, fulfilling assignments both at home and abroad. Following his honorable discharge, he continued to serve his country in the Army Reserves until 1981.
Mike dedicated twenty-three years to a fulfilling career as a Resident Care Aide at the Caro State Hospital. In 1982, he married Teresa Burley and together they had two children. Mike was known for his generosity, open arms, open doors, and laughter. He loved playing cards and gambling, fishing, cooking, collecting, and gardening. More than anything else, Mike loved social gatherings and spending time with his family and friends, creating countless memories that will be cherished for years to come. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and his passing has left a void in the hearts of those who loved him.
Mike is survived by his loving children, Christopher Martinez of Caro and Natasha (Steve) Maurer of Caro; grandchildren, Devin and Julia Patterson; siblings, John Martinez of Watertown, SD, Cecil (Penny) Martinez of Watertown, SD, and Sarah Ocker of Lake Orion; nieces and nephews, Mark (Kim) Rodela of Lapeer, Lee Rodela of Texas, Michelle Curtin of Fenton, Jeremy (Ali) Sprague of Gaylord, Angela (Steve) Mead of Watertown, SD, William Mills of Watertown, SD, Shane Martinez of Watertown, SD, Justin Wasland of Rapid City, SD, Jennifer (Andrew) Sheldon of Tioga, ND, Joshua Martinez of Sioux Falls, SD, SarahJane Ocker of Lake Orion, Rachel Ocker of Waterford, Dana Ocker of Lake Orion, Gregory Leahey, and Janelle Martinez. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Alexis Martinez; siblings, Jesse Martinez, Andrew Martinez, Gloria Aguilera, and Carol Mills; and nephew, Scott Rodela.
We will always remember the light Mike brought into our lives. May he rest in peace, and may we continue to honor his memory by living our lives to the fullest. Please join us in the celebration of his life.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro. A luncheon will follow the service. Mike’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, February 7, 2025 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at noon.
