Michael Ray McDaniel, age 65, of Caro passed away on Monday, April 26, 2010 at his residence with his family at his side. He was born on May 23, 1944 in South Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Charles McDaniel, Jr. and Barbara (Bell) McDaniel. As a child, Mike and his family moved to Michigan. He graduated from Montrose High School in 1962 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era, proudly serving in the CBs. Upon his return to civilian life, he graduated from the Michigan State Police Academy and served for a number of years as a Michigan State Trooper. On November 26, 1988, Mike was united in marriage to the former Donna Campbell in Ortonville. Mike had been employed with General Motors at the Flint Metal Fab plant until his retirement. Mike was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Caro. He loved to target practice and help others with their projects. He enjoyed being on the computer, visiting with family and friends, and his farm. He is survived by his wife, Donna; five children, Robert (Debra) Sherman of Caro, Kevin (Sarah) McDaniel of Katy, Texas, Keith (Abbi) McDaniel of Evansville, Indiana, Bradley (Kendra) Ferree of Houghton, Jennifer (Adam) Gennrich of Watervliet; 13 grandchildren; his siblings, Mollie (Glenn) Glendenning of Montana, Mahlon (Carol) Bullis of Portland, Oregon, and Linda (Ron) Fitchett of Swartz Creek; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Kenneth McDaniel; and three infant grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Caro on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ronald Wigand officiating. Burial will be at East Dayton Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Caro or United Hospice in Marlette.
