Mildred Marie Lewis, age 83, passed away peacefully at Saginaw Senior Care and Rehab Center on Thursday, June 25, 2009, following a lingering decline in her health. Mildred was born November 2, 1925 in Fairgrove, the daughter of the late Loren & Alice (VanDervoort) MacDougall, and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1943 and was united in marriage with Harold H. Lewis on January 16, 1945 in Fairgrove. Harold preceded her in death on May 15, 1979. As a young girl, Mildred was employed at the J.C. Penney store in Caro as a bookkeeper, a skill she kept her entire life. Mildred was a member of the Watrousville United Methodist Church, a member of its choir and mothers club, and helped put on church luncheons and dinners. Mildred was very proud of her Scottish heritage and enjoyed reading, drawing, and making famously good cups of coffee. Mildred is survived by two children and their spouses, Jerome & Cheryl Lewis of Marlette, Kimberly & Jim McDonald of Saginaw; five grandchildren, Brittany and Katie Lewis, Ryan, Christy and Kelli McDonald; one brother, Dean Lewis of Frankenmuth and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Mildred was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Baranic. Our sincere thanks to our family at the Saginaw Senior Care and Rehab Center for their many acts of kindness over these last two years.
