Mildred Helen "Millie" Rosenthal, age 96 years of Pigeon, passed away Monday, October 5th, 2015 at Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care in Pigeon, where she had been a resident for four years.
She was born on December 28th, 1918 to John and Flossie (Gregor) Heiman at her parents home in Kilmanagh. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on February 2nd, 1919 and confirmed on March 20th, 1932. She attended St. John's Lutheran School in Kilmanagh until the eighth grade.
On June 3rd, 1939 she was united in marriage to Merlin R. Damm who preceded her in death on April 10th, 1971. Together they raised three daughters, Janet M. (Dennis) Henne of Bay Port, Jane M. (Cliff) Pobanz of Pigeon, and Jill (Charles) Anderson, who preceded her in death on February 6th, 2004. Survivors also include her grandchildren: Timothy Schafer, Scott (Vicky) Pobanz, Michele (Jeff) Lauth, Shelly (Chris) Wurst, Traci (Rich) Wisenbach, Jenifer (Rob) Kubacki, and Chad (Rhonda) Pobanz; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, JC and his wife Pat of Ohio; son-in-law Chuck (Sue) Anderson; step children: Larry Rosenthal and SuzAnne (John) Bivens of Elkton and Kim (Grace) Rosenthal of Bad Axe. She is also survived by many step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
On June 14th, 1980 Mildred married Walter G. Rosenthal at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkton. Together they enjoyed playing cards, golfing, going out to eat, and country-side drives "checking out the crops." Walter preceded her in death on November 3rd, 2010. Mildred was also preceded in death by her granddaughter Tammy Jo Anderson and granddaughter-in-law Kimberly Schafer; her siblings and in-laws, Wenona & Vincent Fritz, Willard & Alice Heiman, Raymond & Lois Heiman, Gladys & Bill Stover and Florence & Clarence Otto.
Mildred was a lady of few words but had a wonderful sense of humor. She was a great cook and loved to bake. At Christmastime she would bake an array of cookies and candies, and share them with family, friends, and neighbors. She was famous for her cutout "Santa" cookies that she decorated with precision. She enjoyed her job at Scheurer Hospital working for over 20 years in the Housekeeping Department, retiring in July of 1981.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 9th, 2015 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Elkton. Pastor Rodney Schwab will officiate. Burial will be in Grand Lawn Cemetery, Winsor Township.
Memorials in memory of Mildred may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church or Scheurer Hospital Long Term Care.
