Millard Smith

Millard Smith, age 96 years, of Caro, passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2006 at Tuscola County Medical Care Facility. He was born on January 21, 1910 in Ontario, Canada. Millard Smith and the former Evelyn Willson were married on May 1, 1937 in Chatham, Ontario, Canada. The Smiths were Canadian residents until the late 1950s when they came to Tuscola County. Millard served in the Royal Canadian Army during WWII, in the European theater. Mr. Smith was a farmer and carpenter, tilling the soil on their Hurds Corner Road farm until his retirement. In addition to the farming operation, he also worked at Michigan Sugar during the campaign. He was a member of the Sutton-Sunshine United Methodist Church and a former member of the Tuscola County Farm Bureau. Millard enjoyed fishing and camping in earlier years. He is survived by his wife, Evelyn; two sons, Murray (Gay) Smith of McCleary, Washington, and Roger Smith of Bad Axe; a daughter-in-law, Beverley Smith of Caro; six grandchildren, Brian (Roxanne) Smith of Caro, Judy Smith of Caro, Sherryl Childers of Caro, Chad (Christine) Smith of Chicago, Jill (Rich) Priestley of Ann Arbor, and Mark Smith of Tacoma, Washington; five great grandchildren, Kayla and Kent Childers of Caro, Zach and Alyssa Smith of Muskegon, and Gabriel Priestley of Ann Arbor; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Ross Smith and all of his ten siblings. The funeral and committal will be held at Collon Funeral Home on Monday, November 27, 2006 at 11:00 a.m.with Pastor Pat Robbins, officiating. Burial will be at Almer Township Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be made to the Sutton-Sunshine United Methodist Church.
