Minnie L. Brown

Minnie L. Brown of Caro, age 84, passed away suddenly on Monday, August 24, 2015 at McLaren - Bay Region Medical Center in Bay City. Minnie was born February 15, 1931 at home in Big Rapids, the daughter of the late Robert & Edith (Hagman) Windquist. She graduated from Big Rapids High School with the class of 1949 and went on to earn her degree from Northwestern Bible School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was in college that Minnie was to meet her future husband, Jerrold L. Brown and the couple wed on January 20, 1956. Jerrold preceded Minnie in death on March 16, 2005. Minnie will be remembered for her twenty years of service as a Probate Court Recorder in Tuscola County and later as a guardian and conservator. She also spent many years as a legal assistant for Ransford & Crews and several attorneys in the area. Known by her grandchildren as "Grandma Cookie," Minnie's life revolved around her family. Her spare time was spent helping others in need, and her kind acts were almost always accompanied by food. Her love of people blossomed into a visitation ministry to shut-ins, the sick and the elderly. She enjoyed reading, playing Farkle, and would often be heard singing hymns as she cooked for family and friends. She was a devoted member of the Caro First Baptist Church where she served as a greeter, clerk and in various positions for many years. Left to cherish Minnie's memory are three sons and their spouses, Jeffrey L. & Laura Varon Brown of Bloomfield Township, Kevin W. & Sabrina Brown of Darien, Connecticut, Bradley J. & Heidi Brown of Caro; eleven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces, nephews and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Minnie was preceded in death by all of her seven siblings. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2015 at the Caro First Baptist Church with Rev. Ronald C. Wigand officiating. Burial will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro First Baptist Church.
