Mitchell L. Gogola, 94, of Caseville, formerly of Dearborn, died April 18, 2019 in Saginaw.

Mitch was born July 27, 1924 in Hamtramck to the late Stanley and Hedwig Gogola. He married Rita L. Makowska on May 3, 1947. He served in the US Army during World War II as a sharpshooter in Italy where he received two Purple Heart awards. After the war he attended St. Louis University and Lawrence Technological Institute on the GI Bill, receiving a degree in engineering. He began his career at Michigan Consolidated Gas Company digging trenches and worked his way up to head of marketing and sales, retiring in 1979. After retiring he managed Scenic Golf and Country Club in Pigeon. In 1992 he opened Mitch’s Restaurant at Hidden Harbour Golf Course in Caseville. He embodied the American Dream, starting with nothing and building a successful business. He shared his joie de vivre, his love of life, to all he met.

He is survived by his wife Rita; children Michelle (John) Morris of Ann Arbor and Michael (Peggy) Gogola of Caseville; grandchildren Matthew Morris, Michael (Amanda) Morris and Mark (Lauren) Morris; and great-grandson Mitchell Morris.

Private interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
