Muriel "Pat" Newbery

Muriel Patricia "Pat" Newbery, age 95 of Pigeon (formerly of Caseville), died early Monday morning, May 8, 2017 at Courtney Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Bad Axe.

Born in Port Credit, Ontario on February 13, 1922, she was the daughter of William Patrick and Winifred (Tracey) Conroy, and graduated in 1938 from Busch High School, Centerline. On July 26, 1940 she was united in marriage to Robert V. Newbery at the Centerline Presbyterian Church. Pat and Bob had two children, Herbert Donald and Janet Ann, and made their home in Hazel Park for 35 years. Bob preceded her in death on July 31, 1999.

Pat worked part time for the Hazel Park Board of Education; then at the City of Hazel Park as an accountant from 1957 until her retirement in 1975, when they made Caseville their permanent home. She was a life member of the Caseville Library Club. She was a member of Caseville United Methodist Church for 25 years and was church treasurer for 12 years. As a member of Pigeon First United Methodist Church, Pat was an active member of the United Methodist Women. She also loved to bowl, sometimes in three leagues. She was an avid knitter, crocheter, and Detroit Tiger fan.

Surviving are her daughter, Janet and her husband Richard Bryja; daughter-in-law Carol Newbery; four grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son in 2010; four sisters; a step brother; and a step sister.

The funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Pigeon First United Methodist Church, with Rev. Cindy Gibbs, pastor, officiating. Cremation will follow. The family will greet visitors at the church on Thursday beginning at 11:00 a.m.
