Nancy J. Deering, age 39, of Grant Twp. died Monday morning, August 11, at Scheurer Hospital, Pigeon after a long battle with cancer.
She was born August 14, 1968, in Bad Axe to Gerald and Beverly (Vargo) Deering.
Nancy was a 1986 graduate of Laker High School. Later that same year she moved to New Jersey. While there, she started her own mobile dog grooming business, called Jelly Bean's Pup and operated it until returning to Huron County in 2002.
On September 23, 2006, she was united in marriage to Russell L. Sowden at the Elkton United Methodist Church and made their home in Grant Twp. Nancy was currently working with the family business, Grant Grocery at the Elkton/Sebewaing Rd. intersection.
She was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, growing herbs and caring for her pets.
Surviving are her husband, Russell; her parents, Gerald Deering of Caseville and Beverly Deering of Oliver Twp.; four brothers, Paul (Susan) Deering of Oliver Twp., Michael (Joyce) Deering of Grant Twp., Karl (Trisha) Deering of Oliver Twp. and Phillip Deering of Bad Axe; her sister, Julie (Edward) O'Sullivan of Summerset, NJ; several nieces and nephews, and the girls (her dogs) Jade and Gracie.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday at the Elkton United Methodist Church with burial in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Linkville.
Family and friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 6 to 9 PM Wednesday and at the church after 10 AM Thursday.
