Nancy Jane Hughes of Caro, age 81, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2023 at Bay Shores Senior Care. Nancy was born May 13, 1942 in Phoenix, Arizona, the daughter of the late Bernard Ira French and Mary Jane (Durbin) Blackwell. She graduated from high school and went on to become a respiratory therapist. Nancy retired from Caro Community Hospital and later worked for Vencor. She was the founder of United Health Services and had been the Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, Caro chapter. On August 2, 2003, Nancy was united in marriage with Lloyd E. Hughes at the Caro United Methodist Church. Sadly, he preceded her in death on March 18, 2010. Nancy was very talented in painting porcelain, teaching classes, and carrying on Gladys Galloway’s methods and legacy. She attended and sang in the choirs at Caro First Presbyterian Church and Living Waters. In her younger years she was very involved with horse showings and was even the state champion of trick riding in Arizona. Nancy was very fond of her miniature poodles – breeding and raising them. Above all else, she loved her family and friends; she will be missed dearly.
Nancy leaves to cherish her memory her children, Mark (Wendy) Bales, Jamison (Lynn) LeBlanc, and Lloyd (Rita) Hughes; grandchildren, Amanda (Michael) McGee, Rianne (Mark) Kyser, Kaitlyn (Caleb) Licavolli, Jessica Kopka, Amber LeBlanc, Sarah (Brian) LaFlure, Empriss Hawker, Jessica (Andre) Lubaczewski, Emily Campbell, Andrew Campbell, Andrew Morales, and Thomas Plumlee; great-grandchildren, Macklin, Mason, Matthew, and Michael McGee, Rylee Kyser, Arie and Chezleigh Jordan, and Neil and Jaelee Greiner; sister, Judith (Bob) Salay; nieces and nephew, Rachelle, Michael, and Sabrina; great-nieces and great-nephews, Judi, Jessi (Cole), Owen, Mitchell (Jennifer), and Amanda; very close friend, LinAnn Searles; and many extended family members and friends. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Kemberlynn Plumlee.
