Nettie Ann Prokopenko

Nettie A. Prokopenko, age 82, of National City, MI, formerly of Fairgrove and Unionville, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2025 at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw.

Nettie was born in Unionville on August 20, 1942, to Omar and Esther (Gerth) Pobanz. She was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville and graduated from Unionville High School in 1960. She is a retired school bus driver for Akron-Fairgrove Schools and during her retirement she volunteered at a hospital in East Tawas. She enjoyed baking Christmas treats and giving them to family and friends as gifts. She also enjoyed getting manicures and spending time with her nephews, Robert and Doug VanBevern and her great grandchildren.

Nettie is survived by her children: JoAnn (late Dean) Rasmussen of Cass City and Alan (Sally) Prokopenko of Wisner; grandchildren: Kayla Prokopenko, Jordyn (Brenden) Ricker, Shane (Priscilla) Rasmussen and Taylor Rasmussen; great grandchildren: Hadley, Lainey and Renley; and many nieces and nephews.

Nettie is preceded in death by her siblings: Lloyd and Vern Pobanz, Shirley Reige, Norma Jean VanBevern, Dorothy Reige and Carolyn Hoppe.

The memorial visitation and service will be held on Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing. The service will begin at 4pm with Pastor Boyer officiating. Visitation will continue after the service from 4:30-8pm. Burial will be private at Demorest Cemetery in Akron Twp.
