Nicholas Cadotte, age 80 years, of Caro, passed away on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at Caro Community Hospital. He was born on February 19, 1928 on Mackinac Island. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and on January 15, 1954 he and the former Delores Smith were united in marriage at Lincoln Park. Mr. Cadotte was a truck driver and he and his family lived in various parts of the state as they followed his employment. The family have been residents of Caro since 1980. Nicholas is a Native American and a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians. He loved fishing, being outdoors, casinos and food, being especially fond of McDonalds. He was an avid baseball fan and loved the Detroit Tigers. He is survived by his wife, Delores Cadotte; his seven children, Toby (Charlene) Morris of Lapeer, Joette Leyva of Caro, Darrell (Carol) Cadotte of Arkansas, Candy Nameth of Rockwood, Patricia Cadotte of Kingston, Nicol (Alvin) Godin of Caro and John Cadotte of St. Ignace; fifteen grand-children and six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lucille Visnaw, Theresa Howell and Frances Bazinaw, all of St. Ignace; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three sisters, Leona Keyser, Mary Andress and Veronica Massaway on May 10, 2008. The family had a private remembrance which was held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
