Nicholas E. Gettel

Nicholas E. Gettel of Caro, age 34, passed away at his home on Saturday, August 6, 2016 following a courageous battle with cancer. Nick was born June 15, 1982 in Saginaw, the son of Grant & Pat (Zawerucha) Gettel and graduated from Caro High School with the class of 2000. While in high school, Nick was a member of the golf team and participated in 4-H and open horse shows. He continued his studies at Ferris State University in Big Rapids where he was a member of the fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon, graduating in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in marketing. Nick worked as a sales representative for the Tuscola County Advertiser and also AT&T in Caro for several years. His spare time was often spent duck hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a member of the Arrowhead Golf Club and was an avid Detroit Tigers and Redwings fan. Nick's greatest fulfilment came only days before his death when he was united in marriage with the love of his life, Amanda Anderson, on August 4, 2016. His love for her and their children continues to transcend illness and hardship and has taught countless people the true meaning of unconditional love. Left to cherish Nick's memory are his wife, Amanda Gettel of Caro; two children, Brice and Tyler Leveille of Caro; parents, Grant & Pat Gettel of Caro; his paternal grandmother, Margaret Gettel of Caro; two brothers and their spouses, Jeff & Amy Farnum of Midland, Michael & Shana Gettel of Adrian; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A Memorial Mass to honor Nick's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2016 at St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart site, in Caro with burial to follow at the East Dayton Cemetery in Wells Township.
