Nicholas Christopher Keener of Lapeer, age 41, passed away on September 19, 2026 while at McLaren Hospital in Lapeer. He was born on July 3, 1985, the son of the late Howard Keener, Jr. and Tammy (Gramling) Keener. Nick enlisted in the United States Army in 2006, proudly serving his country for one year.
Nick was a true rock star and the life of any party. Whether he was shooting pool, playing poker, or simply enjoying time with friends, he knew how to make the most of every moment. With his larger-than-life personality and incredible sense of humor, Nick had a special gift for making people laugh, often to the point of tears. He was a natural-born comedian, and those who knew him would agree that he could have easily earned the title of “Class Clown” during his school years. Nick brought laughter, energy, and unforgettable memories wherever he went.
Left to cherish Nick’s memory are his aunt, Denise Martin; his cousins, Josh Keener and Denna & Kyle Parker; and his best friends, Tim Tyler, Dave Root, Loretta Smeltzer, and Morgan Hatfield. In addition to his parents, Nick was preceded in death by his aunt, Christy Parker; and his grandparents, Howard Keener, Sr. and Sharon Keener.
Nick will be laid to rest at Great Lakes National Cemetery on Thursday, October 29, 2026, with a committal service being held at 1:00 p.m.
