Norman C. Hensel

Norman Carl Hensel, age 95, of Sebewaing, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 in Florida.

He was born November 13, 1918 in Unionville, son of the late Charles F. and Anna L (Heinetz) Hensel. He had one brother, Eldon E. Thrash and one sister, Thelma V. (Roemer) Hensel.

He married Ruth W. Holland on August 14, 1943. Together they had 2 children: Pamela D. (Bruce) Monson of Sarasota, FL and Jill A. (Scott) Millerwise of Sebewaing; 2 grandchildren: Jeffery (Diane) Monson of Gainesville, FL and Steve (Tammy Sue) Millerwise of Akron; and 4 great grandchildren: Courtney & Tyler Monson, Ryan and Matthew Millerwise.

He served in the United States Army with the 89th Engineering Battalion from May 15, 1941 to December 10, 1945. Served in the Arctic with Task Force 2600 (1942-1943); with 1st Army in France and Germany 1944-1945; with the 6th Division on Okinawa, 1945.

He was a painting contractor since 1946. He served as the Village Clerk and Trustee for 17 years. He's a life member of VFW Post #4115 and served as its Commander for 5 terms. He was also a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church since 1949 and served as Trustee and Vice-President. In his later years he enjoyed oil painting as a hobby.

He then married Dorothy Schwartz on August 24, 2001. Surviving are her children: Kenneth Schwartz of Sebewaing, Brian (Pam) Schwartz of Sebewaing, Jeff (Karen) Bismack of Bad Axe, Mark Schwartz; and great grandson, Tyler Bismack and Leah Schwartz.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am.

Burial will take place privately at Silverlawn Cemetery in Sebewaing.
