Opal Sayers, age 82, passed away with her loving family by her side on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at Agape Care A.F.C. Home in Caro, following a lingering illness. Opal was born October 16, 1924 in Monticello, Illinois, the daughter of the late Charles & Ella (Buck) Nicholson. She graduated from Atwood High School in 1942, and a local business school two years later. She was united in marriage to Gordon Sayers on January 23, 1946 in Decatur, Illinois, and they moved to Caro that same year. She was employed at the Caro Regional Center for 20 years, retiring as the supervisor of the Central Kitchen in 1983. During her employment with the state, she started a catering business in 1969 that continued until 1997. For thirteen years, she catered the Caro Hospital Charity Ball. Opal was a faithful member of the Calvary Bible Church for twenty-seven years. She always enjoyed cooking for her family and others, making wedding cakes and in her quiet time, making quilts for her family and friends. Surviving is her husband of over sixty years, Gordon Sayers; five children and their spouses, Judy & Larry Clarke of Morley, MI, Donald & Rebecca Sayers of Imlay City, Marleen & Jerome Grammentz of Elkton, Wayne & Susan Sayers of Caro, Mary & Dennis Sweeney of Holt, MI; ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren; one brother, Ellis Nicholson of Mesa, AZ and many nieces and nephews. Opal was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters
