Orin John Engelhardt

Orin John Engelhardt, 85, of Kilmanagh, passed away Thursday, February 2, 2023 at home under hospice care.

Orin was born at home October 12, 1937 in Kilmanagh to the late John and Emma (Nietzke) Engelhardt. He graduated from Sebewaing High School in 1955. He married Carol Gremel February 14, 1958; she died in a farm accident in September 1958. He married Frances Hornbacher in Detroit on January 3, 1971, they were married by his uncle Rev. Carl Nietzke.

Orin grew up in Kilmanagh on the family farm. He raised and trained harness horses, which raced at many fairs and at the Detroit tracks. He also raised hogs, beef cattle and dairy cows. Orin was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kilmanagh where he held many church offices. He was on the Huron County Fair Board for over 40 years and served as the Fairhaven Twp Supervisor for many years.

Orin is survived by his loving wife Frances; children Larry (Eva) of Port Austin, Kristine (Rob) Marker of Kilmanagh and Susan (Lonnie) Irion of Pigeon; 8 grandchildren Samantha (Matt) Peaphon, Jacob and Alex Engelhardt, Aaron (Candice) Marker, Eric (Kathryn) Marker, Amy Marker, and Emma and Leah Irion; great-grandchildren Ava and Logan; special niece Anissa Kuhl. He was preceded in death by his brothers Arnold (Ruby) and Victor (Dora) and sister Florence (Ed) Kundinger Jr.

Funeral services will be 3:00pm Sunday, February 5th at St. John Lutheran Church - Kilmanagh with Rev. Thom Garrison officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Noon to 3:00pm Sunday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
