Ormond Dale Smith of Cass City, age 76, passed away Monday, October 27, 2025 at Timberline Lodge in Caro. Ormond was born April 4, 1949, in West Hamlin, West Virginia to the late Lola and Herman Reynolds. At Club 24 Restaurant & Bar, Ormond met Lois Ann Dennis, and over a single shared drink, their story began. That moment marked the start of a lifelong love and the couple was united in marriage at their home on April 19, 1991. Sadly, Lois preceded him in death on Christmas Day of 2019.
Ormond was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who cherished every opportunity to ride his Harley-Davidson. When he wasn’t on the open road, he could often be found in his workshop, skillfully creating intricate wood pieces that he lovingly gifted to family and friends. He also enjoyed spending quiet evenings watching Jeopardy! or classic Westerns, especially those featuring his favorite cowboy, John Wayne.
Throughout his life, Ormond had many aspirations, but his greatest joy in life was fulfilled when he married Lois Ann and became a father of five. His devotion to his family was unwavering, extending later to his grandchildren, who brought him endless happiness. Whether he was presenting one of his handcrafted creations or joining in spirited backyard water fights, Ormond gave his heart and soul to every moment he shared with those he loved most. His legacy lives on in the laughter, love, and memories he so graciously gave.
Ormond leaves to cherish in his memory his loving children, Linda (Edward) Dennis, Troy (Beth) Dennis, Brenda (Fred) Racine, the late Matthew (Selena Moore) Dennis, and Kathy Dennis; grandchildren, Krystal (Raphael) McKean, Jordan Dennis, Dustin (Shannel Simpson) Dennis, Linda Leann, James Cain, Thomas Cain, Kristopher Cain, Destiny Dennis, Alexis Dennis, André Dennis, Amber (Charlie Burch) Monchilov; great-grandchildren, Sulivan Monchilov, Leah Dennis, Haden McKean, Sierra McKean, and many more; and his brother, Ricky Reynolds. In addition to his parents and wife, Ormond was preceded in death by his grandson, Calvin Cain.
In accordance with Ormond’s wishes cremation is to take place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. Those planning an expression or sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to his family, c/o Dustin Dennis, 205 West Sherman Street, Caro, MI 48723.
