Otto Heinrich Fluegge

Otto H. Fluegge, 83, of Elkton, passed away Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at McLaren Thumb Region Hospital in Bad Axe.

Otto was born at home in Oliver Twp on November 18, 1940 to the late Otto Sr. and Emma (Voss) Fluegge.  He graduated from Pigeon High School in 1958 and attended Michigan State University for agriculture.  On December 30, 1961 he married Loraine Miller at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church - Berne.

Otto began his career as a tool and die maker at Active Industries along with farming the homestead.  In his 30's he and his wife owned and operated Fluegge Foods in Pigeon.  After selling the store he returned to being a tool and die maker/pattern maker.  He was an active member of St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne where he held many offices and a member of the Pigeon Rotary Club.  He enjoyed fishing, outdoor activities, volunteering in the community, visiting with family and friends and spending winters in Sebring, Florida playing shuffleboard.  Above all, he loved his family and his Lord and Savior.

Otto is survived by his wife Loraine; children Veronica Fluegge-Garza of Ann Arbor, Grant of Shelby Twp, Regina (Jeff) Rastello of Saginaw, and Leigh (James) Osentoski of Kingston; son-in-law Terry Mackezyk of Tennessee; grandchildren Marissa, Shelby, Daniel, Celeste, Crystal, Michael, Chase, Maximus, and Zane; great-grandchildren Jaxson, Holly, Savannah, and Zef; sister-in-law Mary Lou Fluegge of Pigeon.  He was preceded in death by his daughter Rhoda Mackezyk; sisters Lorraine Beadle, Crystal Teems and Janet Foy; and brother Robert Fluegge.

Funeral services will be at 11:00am Saturday, September 21st at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne with Rev. Steven Neuman officiating.  Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel.
