Patricia Catherine "Kay" Fessler

Patricia Catherine "Kay" Fessler of Cadillac, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Curry House Assisted Living and Memory Care in Cadillac. Kay was born May 28, 1929 in Sault Ste. Marie, the daughter of the late Martin and Olive (Raddicliffe) Mertaugh. She graduated from Cedarville High School prior to attending and graduating from Bay City Business College. Kay and her friend, Shirley Cooper, moved to Virginia and worked for the U.S. Navy in Washington D.C., later moving back to Michigan to take a job opening at Detroit Edison Company in Caro. She met a fellow Edison employee and was united in marriage with Lawrence Fessler on June 23, 1951 in Hessel, and he preceded her in death on July 25, 1997. After Lawrence's' death, she lived in several locations to be near family, eventually settling in Cadillac. Kay was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish while living in Caro and involved in many church activities, as well as being a girl scout leader. Kay enjoyed knitting, reading, playing canasta and euchre. Left to cherish her memory are two children and their spouses, Patricia & Joseph Sattler of Cadillac and Theresa & Scott Barger of Big Rapids; five grandchildren, Katie & Ryan Bilby of Kentwood, Erin Sattler of Kentwood, Scott, Jr. & Staci Barger of Jenison, Jessica Barger of Big Rapids, and David Barger of Big Rapids; and several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016 at St. Christopher Parish, Sacred Heart site in Caro with Rev. John Ladd officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider contributions to the Alzheimer's Association.
