Patrick Ely Cooley

July 15, 1941 — May 12, 2025

Port Austin

Patrick Ely Cooley of Port Austin, age 83, passed away on Monday May 12, 2025 at home, surrounded by his family. He was born July 15, 1941 in Decatur, Illinois, the son of the late Pete and Mary Catherine (Gallagher) Cooley. Pat graduated from St. Teresa High School in Decatur and went on to further his education at several different schools. He became a broker on Wall Street from 1964 until 1975 and then worked many different jobs; truly a jack of all trades. In 1985, Pat opened the Andel Inn in the Catskills until his retirement in 1994, moving to Michigan. He loved golfing, tending to his garden, and keeping his yard immaculate. Pat will forever be remembered for his great sense of humor and how funny he was.

Pat leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of nearly twenty-four years, Beth; sons, Patrick Cooley, Jr., Michael Cooley, and Brian Cooley; step-daughter,  Monica McClendon; step-son, Mark James; grandchildren, MaKenna, Meaghan, Mason, Emma, and Onno; step-grandson, Jake McClendon; great-grandson, Reid Cooley; sister, Mary Ann (Robert) Hunt; sisters-in-law, Sue Cooley and Martha Arndt; many nieces and nephews; and his best-fur-friends, Colby and Riley. In addition to his parents, Pat was preceded in death by his brother, Dudley Cooley and the mother of his children, Martha Cooley.

A private family mass will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 and on Sunday, June 22, 2025, the family invites friends and family to the Bird Creek Golf Course in Port Austin after 1:00pm to honor Pat. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Port Austin, St. Teresa in Decatur, Illinois or your favorite charity.
