Paul T. Dost

Paul T. Dost of Caro, age 92, passed away on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community. Paul was born October 16, 1924 in Detroit, the son of the late Paul & Marie (Trischler) Dost. He grew up in Silverwood and enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, Paul began his career as a truck driver, an occupation he held for over forty years until his retirement from Central Transport in 1987. During his retirement years, he also enjoyed working at Central Shop Rite and as a seasonal worker at Michigan Sugar in Caro. In 1950, Paul was united in marriage with the former Marilyn Griebe, but she passed away in 1956. Paul was blessed to find his second love, Freida Ann Schilk, whom he married on August 24, 1957. Freida preceded him in death in 2004. Paul was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro, a past president of the Polish American Club in Caro, and a former member of the Caro Eagles Aerie #3587, Caro Moose Lodge #1049 and the Caro American Legion Post #7. His spare time was often spent outdoors, gardening, fishing, hunting and golfing. His family will remember fondly time spent enjoying Paul's smoked suckers, barbeque chicken, homemade wine, or his unbeatable sauerkraut. Left to cherish his memory are four children and their spouses, Sharon McClorey of Bay City, Raymond & Jacqueline Dost of Saginaw, Pamela & Scott Phillips of Marlette, Valerie Beckrow & Greg Benthall of Caro; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three siblings, Harold Dost and his wife, Joann, of Silverwood, Betty Norrington of Caro, Alice Lynch of Caro; sister-in-law, Erlinda Dost of Mayville; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and two wives, Paul was preceded in death by his son, Charles Dost; son-in-law, Gerald Beckrow; and siblings, Virginia, Charlie, Don and Duane. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 11, 2017 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro with Rev. Cameron Steele officiating. Burial with Military Honors afforded by the Caro American Legion Post #7 and the U.S. Navy will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Thursday at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
