Paul E. Dunham of Alger, formerly of Caro, age 87, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 4, 2022. Paul was born October 21, 1934 in Caro, the son of the late Gerald & Ova (Matznick) Dunham. He grew up on the family farm in Caro and farmed all his life. Paul had a strong work ethic and natural mechanical ability to repair tractors or any type of machinery. In addition to farming, he also enjoyed clearing land with his Caterpillar D-2 Bulldozer. Paul retired from General Motors as a Journeyman of Skilled Trades in machine repair. Pauls way was always to work hard, play hard, and be in the pew on Sunday morning. Paul was united in marriage with Janet Romain on February 18, 1984 and they have cherished more than thirty-eight years together. He was a lifetime member of the Methodist faith, serving as Chairman of the Board at Bethel United Methodist Church in Akron and as a Lay Leader for seventy-one years. Paul liked the simple things in life and appreciated the serenity of nature. He also enjoyed spending many summers camping with friends and attending the Old Engine and Tractor Show and Flea Market in Buckley. Paul was proud to have restored two Fords, a 1923 T-Bucket and a 1932 5-Window Coup, and he took to woodworking and carpentry in his later years. He traveled extensively with his beloved wife Jan on their Honda Goldwing, visiting every state east and west of the Mississippi. A favorite trip of Pauls on the motorcycle was to the Alaskan Circle. He and Jan also enjoyed many retirement years at their other home up north. Paul especially enjoyed the time he spent with family. Left to cherish Pauls memory are his wife, Jan Dunham of Alger; two sons and their spouses, Randy & Brenda Dunham of Caro, Tom & Anne Dunham of Caro; two step-daughters and their spouses, Michele & Robert West of Bay City, Melinda & Thomas Summers of Gagetown; eight grandchildren and their spouses, Lacey Dunham & Mike Anderson, Christian & Courtney Dunham, Ashley & Aaron Roznowski, Tyler & Chay Dunham, Justin & Angela Summers, Luke West, Andrea West, and Ashley West; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Dunham, Brady Roznowski; and many nieces and nephews. Close to Pauls heart was his little, white Maltese dog named “Precious.” In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by two brothers and their spouses, Carson & Loris Dunham, O. D. & Marjorie Dunham. The Dunham family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Heartland ProMedica Hospice for their loving and expert care during Pauls final days.
