Paul “Pete” Kovacs of Caro, age 92, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2023, at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro. Pete was born October 20, 1931, in Juniata Township, the son of the late Joseph and Matilda (Horwath) Kovacs. After high school, Pete worked as a carpenter and later became a millwright for the Grede Foundry in Vassar. On August 16, 1952, Pete married the former Naomi Wilson, and the couple cherished more than forty-three years of marriage before her passing in 1995. In his spare time, Pete found solace in the great outdoors and was a seasoned hunter and fisherman. Animals held a special place in Pete’s heart, and his compassion extended to creatures big and small, wild and domestic. He was an avid fan of the University of Michigan and Detroit Lions, and he could often be found cheering on his teams with enthusiasm. Pete had a fondness for John Deere tractors and the nostalgia and reliability that they represented and was known for his strong political convictions. One of his greatest passions in life was travel, whether he was enjoying scenic landscapes through the windows of his Winnebago, at sea on a cruise, or exploring overseas in places such as Hungary and Africa. Pete leaves behind a legacy of compassion and the spirit of adventure that will continue to inspire all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
Left to cherish Pete’s memory are two children, Greg Kovacs (Connie Betz) of Caro, and Dawn Edgley (Mark Handler) of Traverse City; one grandson, Peter Edgley; three great-grandchildren, Ellie, Dexter, and Devin Edgley; and a sister, Rosemary King. In addition to his parents and wife, Pete was preceded in death by a grandson, Gabriel Edgley; and ten brothers and sisters.
