Paul Joseph LaFave, age 81 years, of Gagetown, passed away on Tuesday, October 07, 2008 at St. Marys of Michigan in Saginaw. He was born on November 30, 1926 in Gagetown to the late Herbert and Alice (Rocheleau) LaFave.
Paul LaFave and the former Donna Koenig were united in marriage on August 22, 1953 at St. Stephens in Saginaw. He was a prominent farmer, retiring in 1988. He was a member of St. Agathas Catholic Church in Gagetown and the Parish Council. He was also a member of the Elks in Essexville, was politically active as a Michigan delegate in the Republican Party, and was a supporter of the Octagon Barn where he contributed antique farm implements. Paul enjoyed dancing and loved baseball, where he was known as “Spider”.
He is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons, three daughters and their spouses, John (Pamela) LaFave of Cass City, Robert (Renee) LaFave of Birch Run, Deborah (Kenneth) Haag of Unionville, Jeanne (Jim) Brinkman of Cass City and Cindy (Cas) Jurek of Kinde; eleven grandchildren, Scott (Julie) Haag and Adam Haag, Austin (Heather) Brinkman and Anthony Brinkman, Paris and Kurt Jurek, Estee (Ben) Zimba, Andrew and Kent LaFave, and Weston LaFave; one brother, Ted LaFave of Caro; one sister, Betty Bryant of Royal Oak; as well as several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six brothers, John, Robert, Jack (Vern), Patrick, Murl and Frank LaFave; and five sisters, Thelma LaFave, Melva Bidigare, Virginia Sirbaugh, Catherine Rick and Ruth Russell.
The Funeral Liturgy will be held at St. Agathas Catholic Church in Gagetown on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Stephen J. Fillion and Sister Dorothy Ann Blasko OP officiating.
Rite of Committal will be at St. Agathas Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m.
Vigil for the Deceased will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Paul Joseph LaFave family discretionary fund.
