Paul A. Ransford of Harbor Springs, formerly of Caro, age 81, passed away on Friday, June 2, 2017. Paul was born July 8, 1935 in Highland Park, one of three children born to the late Maurice and Margaret (Robins) Ransford of Caro. Growing up in Caro, he attended Caro High School and graduated with the class of 1953. He then attended Michigan State University and graduated from Wayne State University in 1956 with a degree in Mortuary Science. Paul was employed in the Detroit area for several years, returning to Caro in August of 1971 when he purchased the Tuscola County Abstract Company. He was a member of the Caro Mt. Moriah Lodge #226 F&AM, the Birchwood Farms Golf and Country Club in Harbor Springs, and was elected to the Board of Governors for the American Land Title Association. Paul enjoyed golfing and spending time with friends, and took great interest in the Detroit Tigers. He always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren; they brought him great joy and he was proud of them and all their accomplishments. Paul and Eileen enjoyed many memorable trips traveling with dear friends, Lowell and Jean Elowsky. His first marriage was to Ann E. (Luther) Ransford, the mother of his three children, who survives him. He then married the former Eileen Hutchinson, his wife of twenty-eight years. They spent many fine years together, retiring to Harbor Springs in 1998. In addition to his wife, Eileen, Paul is survived by three children and their spouses, Charles & Kathryn Ransford of Harbor Springs, John & Shana Ransford of West Branch, Kathryn & Erik Oster of Rockford; grandchildren, Liam, Peter and James Ransford, Abigail, Connor, Henry and Margaret Oster; two step-children, Deborah & Eric Jackson and step-grandson, Brandon Jackson, Marjorie & Rodney Traxler and step-grandson, Benjamin of Georgia; one brother and his wife, Dick & Sue Ransford of Caro; one niece and her husband, Sarah & Jim Baird; and one nephew and his wife, Mark & Lainey Ransford. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Ann Ransford. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. with special remarks beginning at 3:30 by Nicholas Schmelter, along with family and friends.
