Paul D. Walsh, age 82 of Pigeon died Wednesday evening, March 4, at Scheurer Long Term Care, Pigeon.
He was born August 10, 1932 in Pinnebog to the late Edward and Emily (Bushey) Walsh.
On January 22, 1949, he was united in marriage to Maxine R. Elftman at St. Felix Catholic Church, Pinnebog. They made their home in Chandler and Lake Townships until 1972, when they moved to Pigeon.
Paul was co-owner of Walsh Packing, Pigeon from 1969 to 1986. In his earlier years, Paul farmed the family farm in Chandler Twp. and worked at the Sugar Beet Factory in Sebewaing during the winter. Prior to opening his own business, he had been employed at Schumacher Meat Market, downtown Pigeon.
He was a member of St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church and had served on the parish council a number of years. Paul was a very active member of the K of C, chairing several committees, including pancake breakfasts, and rentals and maintenance of their hall west of Pigeon for over 15 years. He was voted the Knight of the year in 2009.
Paul enjoyed watching Tiger baseball, listening to banjo music, St. Patrick’s Day, hunting and fishing. He liked making daily visits to the coffee shop and gun shop to hear the latest news. He loved having an audience and was a “world class” storyteller!
Surviving are five children, Mike (Patsy) Walsh of Caseville, Beth (Tim) Kraft of Roscommon, Vicki (John) Huff of Essexville, Pat (Pam) Walsh of St. Johns and Brian (Kelli) Walsh of Pigeon; eleven grandchildren, Jami Walsh, Scott (Katie) Walsh, Kim (Jim) Christie, Jayne (Dan) Maciejewski, Joe Lomba, Jessica, Carolyn, Daniel Walsh, Jacky(Anthony) Bowers, Ben (Michelle) Walsh, and Nick Walsh; six great grandchildren, Emalee, Alex, Brady, Cole, Marshall and Landon; a brother Dan (Mary Ellen) Walsh sister, Joanne (Jim) Murphy and sister-in-law, Ruth Walsh of Pigeon..
Preceding him in death was wife, Maxine in 2010 and his brother, Tom Walsh.

A funeral mass will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, March 9, at St. Francis Borgia Catholic Church with burial in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given Scheurer Long Term Activities or to his church.
