Pauline L. Layer

Pauline L. Layer of Caro, age 97, passed away on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community with her loving family by her side. Pauline was born November 24, 1921 in Detroit, the daughter of the late George and Helen (Paurich) Kovich. She graduated from Whittemore-Prescott High School with the class of 1939 and began working as a cook at the Caro State Hospital shortly after. Pauline later worked as a bookkeeper before taking positions with the Tuscola County Cooperative Extension, Drain Commissioner, and eventually the clerk's office, retiring as Deputy County Clerk for Tuscola in 1982 after more than twenty years of service. She was united in marriage with Lloyd Layer on May 10, 1942 in Caro and the couple cherished over sixty-four years together prior to Lloyd's passing on April 27, 2006. Pauline was a member of the Caro First Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. She had a deep love for cooking and sharing her creations with family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling, spending time at the family cottage in Higgins Lake, and wintering in Florida for eighteen years. Pauline was also known to collect and share recipes and cookbooks and enjoyed crocheting, sewing and knitting. Left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Cindy Crawford-Sanborn of Caro; two grandchildren, Bethany Hill and her husband, Matthew, of Reese, Cevin Crawford and his fianc, Samantha Schultz, of Reese; two great-granddaughters, Livia and Ayla; one sister, Wilma Russell and her husband, Robert, of New Haven, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Pauline was preceded in death by one sister, Eleanor Kovich, MD; and two sons-in-law, Thomas L. Crawford and Thomas B. Sanborn. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2019 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Pastor David Wilczynski officiating.
