Peggy Joy Hutton

Peggy Joy Hutton of Caro, age 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at Fisher Senior Care & Rehab Center with her family by her side. Peggy was born March 14, 1939 in Highland Park, the daughter of the late Charles Scott and Virgina June (Sparling) Downing. She graduated from Berkley High School and went on to hold a number of jobs from the phone company to United Way and owning Quality Supply. Peggy was united in marriage on February 2, 1957 to Elwin Jay “E.J.” Hutton in Caro. Together they shared thirty-eight years and countless memories before E.J.’s passing on May 6, 1995. Peggy participated in theater and found great enjoyment in watching her great-grandson, Landon, perform. She was always on the go, enjoying get-togethers with the Red Hat Society and socializing with friends and family. Peggy was an avid reader, exploring countless worlds and immersing herself in the magic of literature; one of her favorite places was the library. Beyond Peggy’s love of reading, she always looked forward to her salon days. Getting her nails and hair done was a true highlight of Peggy’s life, and a ritual not to be missed!

Peggy leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Kerri Britton; grandchildren, Morgan (Shannon) Swartzendruber, Nicholas (Macey Funsch) Britton, Emani Bertollini, and Ethin Hutton; great-grandchildren, Landon, Braden, and Addison Swartzendruber, Harper Britton, Micah Diener, Porter and Sawyer Dhooghe; siblings, Kim Scott, DeeAnn Downing, Richard (Cora Lou) Downing, and Burt (Lynne) Downing; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Scott, Debbie Scott, and Karen Downing; many nieces, nephews, and friends. Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Elwin Hutton; daughter, Tammi Hutton; father, Charles Scott; mother and step-father, Virginia & Harold Downing; brothers, Leon Scott, Danny Scott, and Robert Downing.

In keeping with Peggy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home. Peggy’s family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 12:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial contributions to the Caro Area District Library, 840 West Frank Street, Caro, Michigan 48723.
