Penelope Sandra "Penny" Haney

Penelope Sandra "Penny" Haney of San Diego, California, passed away on January 25, 2018. Penny was born May 6, 1941 in Caro, the daughter of the late Rita F. (Campbell) Hitchings and Glenn E. Hitchings, and was a 1959 graduate of Caro High School. In 1957, while working at the Strand Theatre, she met Lloyd Haney. They married on January 9, 1960 while Lloyd was serving in the U.S. Navy. In 1967 they moved to San Diego, California, and raised their family. While raising her sons, Penny worked at Ree's Hallmark store. She was also an active member of the Palisades Presbyterian Church and participated in the Junior Woman's Club, a bowling league, the San Diego Epiphyllum Society and, having a big heart for all of God's creatures, was always caring for an adopted cat, dog or bird, or two. Penny is survived by her loving husband, Lloyd Haney of San Diego, California; two sons and their spouses, Keith & Robin Haney of San Diego, California, Darren & Romy Haney of Puyallup, Washington; two grandsons, Christian and Nathaniel; one granddaughter, Madeline; three siblings, Marita Miklovic of Caro, Glenna Macy of Shreveport, Louisiana, William Hitchings of Kalamazoo; sisters-in-law, Margaret Meyer of Frankenmuth, Doris Gross of Lapeer, and Ruth Fell of Quaker Hill, Connecticut. In addition to her parents, Penny was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Lloyd Haney; and two sisters, Pat Kilbourn and Mary Jane Southworth. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Pete Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at the Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in honor of Penny's love for animals to the San Diego Humane Society.
