Peter Walton Putnam, a lifelong resident of Caro, left his loving family's side and entered God's Kingdom on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at the age of 90. Peter was born September 11, 1929 in Wells Township, the son of the late Claude and Jennie (Brady) Putman. He enlisted with the U.S. Army in 1948 and later graduated from Army Officer Training. During his service, Peter was united in marriage with the former June Shirley Flory on April 8, 1950 at the Wahjamega Country Church, and she survives. Peter worked at the Caro Regional Center for fifteen years but spent the majority of his career as a self-employed upholsterer in Caro for thirty years. He was passionate about teaching children God's message and was active with child evangelism, bible school, camp ministry, and traveled the area with the Good News Club where he was known as "Smiley the Clown" to countless children. Peter loved traveling the country and world with his beloved June and enjoyed oil painting and artwork. His talent can still be seen in the mural he created for the entrance of the Juniata Christian School. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of sixty-nine years, June Putnam of Caro; six children and their spouses, Aaron & Linda Putnam of Ada, Mark Putnam of Caro, Timothy & Myra Putnam of Cass City, David & Mary Putnam of Wasilla, Alaska, Melody Crossett & Dewain Jones of Snover, Daniel & Jill Putnam of Caro; nine grandchildren, Paula, David, Jr., Jennifer, Hillarie, Nathanael, Luke, Kara Mae, Andrea, Samuel James, and Zachary Daniel; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
