Peter Zechmeister

Peter Zechmeister of Caro, age 59, passed away on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, following a brief illness. Pete was born February 6, 1957 in Detroit, the son of Peter & Katherina (Bellfinger) Zechmeister. He was a 1975 graduate of Houghton Lake High School and began a thirty-year career with the Carpenters Union Local 687 in Detroit, a profession that led him to travel across the country. Pete was a big man with a soft heart that cared deeply for his family. An aspiring Emeril Lagasse, he was always feeding others at barbeques or dinners at his home, carefully prepared for family and friends. Pete loved being outdoors, fishing for steelhead and hunting. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited. Left to cherish his memory are one daughter, Christy Zechmeister of Akron; three grandchildren, Landon Brabo, Audrey and Abbey Wood; parents, Peter & Katherina Zechmeister of Marion; brothers, Tony Zechmeister of Caro, Joseph Zechmeister and his wife, Clayette, of Caro, Stephan Zechmeister of Detroit; one step-son, Jeff LaFountaine of Romulus; the mother of his daughter, Rose Kaatz of Cass City; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one step-son, Joe LaFountaine in 2007. In keeping with Pete's wishes, cremation has taken place.
