Phyllis Elaine DuRussel, age 95, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2019 at Agape Care Systems in Caro. Elaine was born July 7, 1924 in Superior, Wisconsin, the youngest of six children born to the late Herman & Catherine (Guitard) Fortin, originally from Canada. The Fortin family moved by train to Pontiac in 1927. Elaine graduated from St. Frederick's High School in Pontiac in 1942, worked as an airplane parts factory worker at the GE Dupont Company during WWII, and later for Consumers Power as a switchboard operator. She was united in marriage with Vernon Nicholas DuRussel on September 8, 1951 at St. Pancratius Catholic Church in Cass City. Elaine and Vern lived in the little white house on Deckerville Road for over sixty-five years, sharing a devoted life together while raising their two daughters in small-town Caro. Elaine enjoyed life's simple pleasures, including houseplant and vegetable gardening, reading, movies, Tigers baseball, Sunday drives, dining out, and collecting crackled glassware. Earlier, Elaine enjoyed bowling, bus tours, and several trips south for the winter. Her greatest joy of all was watching her grandchildren grow up and having her great-grandchildren visit. Left to cherish her memory are her faithful and loving husband of sixty-seven years, Vern; two devoted daughters and their spouses, Denise and Kim Procunier of Sanford, MI, Lisa and Gale Jackson of Caro; five grandchildren, Colleen (Matt) Russell, Karmen (DuWayne) Loney, Janelle Procunier, Lynette Jackson, Garret Procunier; four great-grandchildren, Myra, Fern, Margot, and Kelvin; and special caregiver and neighbor, Christina Thane.
