Phyllis Engle

Phyllis E. Engle, age 85 years, of Colling Road, Caro, passed from this life on Friday, January 13, 2006 at Timberline Lodge, surrounded by her loving family. Phyllis Currie was born on April 14, 1920 in Harbor Beach, the daughter of the late Alec and Marguerite Currie, and was a graduate of Port Huron Business College. On April 26, 1942 the former Phyllis Currie was united in marriage with Carlton Engle in Harbor Beach, sharing more than sixty-three years of wonderful companionship and love. Mrs. Engle was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro. She devoted the early part of her married life to supporting and nurturing her family. After the children were raised, she worked as a salesperson for both Buckley Shoes and the J.C. Penney Company. Phyllis was well suited for both roles because of her quick wit and love of people. Phyllis is survived by her husband, Carlton; three children and spouses, Richard Engle of Fort Gratiot, Cheryl (Joel) Hord of Boca Raton, Florida, and Marilyn (Traver) Wood of Charlevoix; seven grandchildren, Sara VonBernthal, Jessica Cleland, Christy McGuckin, Paul Hord, Christy Hord, Adam Wood and Elissa Wood; eight great-grandchildren; two siblings, Dorothy (Harold) Cregeur of Caro and Douglas (Eleanor) Currie of Harbor Beach; a sister-in-law; Beada Currie; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Jack Currie. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro on Sunday, January 29, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Cameron Steele officiating. Visitation will be at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Sunday, January 29, 2006, from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church Educational Building Fund or the charity of the donors choice.
