Phyllis A. Findlay of Caro, age 79, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at University Hospital in Ann Arbor surrounded by her family, following a brief illness. She was born March 27, 1934 in Fairgrove, the daughter of the late Grover and Ada (Tennant) Russell. She attended the Graham Country School and was a 1951 graduate of Caro High School. Phyllis was united in marriage with Paul Findlay on December 7, 1951 at the Bethel Church in Akron. She worked with her husband on the farm as well as being the bookkeeper, raising six children and continues as a role model for her family. For thirty-one years, Phyllis and her husband brought smiles to many faces in the community as "Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus." Phyllis was strong in her faith and active in her church as well as being a member of the Colwood United Brethren Church. She attended Bay Shore Camp meetings with her mother as a child and continues to support Bay Shore Camp. She was a 4-H Leader for many years and enjoyed gardening, caring for her yard, canning and reading. Phyllis is survived by her husband of over sixty-one years, Paul Findlay of Caro; her children, Michael & Mary Findlay of Caro, Patty & Charlie Witkovsky of Caro, Carol Findlay of Seoul, South Korea, Karen & Wells Williams of Sitka, Alaska, Sharon & Doug Coon of Unionville, Bruce & Sue Findlay of Caro; sixteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; one brother and his wife, Leonard & Beth Russell of Akron; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one great-granddaughter, Savannah Grace Findlay; and one sister, Ruth McConnell. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Colwood United Brethren Church with Pastor Jason Garwood officiating. Burial will follow at a later time at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove. Pallbearers for Mrs. Findlay will be her grandsons. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Monday from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Colwood United Brethren Church.
