R. David Macdowall

April 14, 1937 — May 3, 2015

R. David Macdowall age 78, of Elkton died Sunday evening at his home while under hospice care.

He was born April 14, 1937 in Beckley, West Virginia to the late James and Edna (Fox) Macdowall. He and his family moved and lived in several states before settling in Huron County while Dave was in his teens.

After high school, Dave went to trade school, becoming a tool and die maker, and was then employed at Active Industries, working there for over 35 years, retiring from ,the now Tower Automotive, in 2001.

On December 11, 1965, he was united in marriage to Georgeann McAlpine at the Bethany Missionary Church on York Street in Elkton. They made their home in Elkton where they raised three children.

Dave was a member of the Community Wesleyan Church and past union president of Local 628, Elkton. He had been an avid hunter and fisherman, more recently he enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing solitaire. Almost any time of the day, Dave could be seen walking somewhere in Elkton, he enjoyed walking and visiting with anyone on the way.

Surviving are his wife of almost 50 years, Georgeann; three children, Rob (Tina) Macdowall of Frankenmuth, Jim (Shelley) Macdowall of Bad Axe and Tracy Macdowall of Grand Blanc; five grandchildren, Brody, Dalton, Eliana, Jacob and Ayden; a brother, John (Ginger) Macdowall of Centerville, MD and Godson, D.J. McAlpine of Elkton.

Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 PM Thursday, May 7, at the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. Rev. Ean Green, pastor will officiate with interment in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.

Friends may call at the church Thursday, from 11:00 AM until the time of services. Memorial gifts may be given to his church of the Elkton Lions Club for Leader Dog.
