Ray Donald McGathy, age 65 of Bay Port, passed away Saturday, June 25, 2011 at home.
Born in Bay Port on March 5, 1946, he was the son of the late Charles and Lillian W. (Naffien) McGathy, and was a 1964 Laker High School graduate.
Ray retired in 1996 at age 50 from Saginaw Steering Gear, where he had worked for 30 years. He helped John "Bim" Kuhl and Jim Hamel as a commercial fisherman, and also worked at Walsh Meat Packing in Pigeon for several years.
Ray was known as the "Pirate of Bay Port", participating in many area parades along with his pirate ship float. He was an active member of the Bay Port Chamber of Commerce. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his family, and spending time with his friends down in the grove in Bay Port.
Ray is survived by three sons, Darin (Susie) McGathy, Matthew (Kathryn) McGathy, and Thad (Haylie Dufty) McGathy, all of Bay Port; five grandchildren: Shawna, Brittney, Katelyn, Taylor, and Colin; a brother, Charles (Sue) McGathy of Raleigh, North Carolina; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Roy.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 29 at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, with Rev. Alger T. Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Caseville Township Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Autism Society or the charity of donor's choice.

Monday, June 27 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Tuesday, June 28 1:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Wednesday, June 29 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.
