Ray was born October 27, 1940 in Springfield, Illinois, the son of the late Michael DeFrates and Wanda (Maxwell) DeFrates. His journey into the world of business and amusement began as a passion, evolving into a remarkable career where he became known for his incredible ability to entertain and amaze. As a clever businessman, Ray had a vision that transcended the ordinary. His ventures in the amusement industry were marked by creativity, innovation, and a commitment to delivering fun experiences. Ray’s ability to bring joy and laughter through his unique talent was a testament to his charisma and showmanship. It was at the fair Ray happened to meet the love of his life, Ann. Their love knew no boundaries, and their devotion to each other was an enduring testament to the depth of their connection.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Ray was a true gentleman—a beacon of class, dignity, and kindness.
