Rev. George William Harmon of Caro, age 98, passed away on Monday, January 13, 2020 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro. George was born August 9, 1921 in Three Rivers, the son of the late George Henry and Vera (Boyer) Harmon. He was united in marriage with the former Doris May Willemin on January 18, 1942 and she preceded him in death in 1998. George was a factory worker, farmer and self-employed in the sand, gravel and excavating business until 1951 when he enrolled as a student at the Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music (now Cornerstone University). Graduating in 1954. He moved to Rockford where he was hired by Blakeslee Plumbing and Heating and learned the plumbing and heating trade; a trade that he practiced throughout his working career. George also pastored a small rural church on weekends in Bitely. In 1959 he accepted a call to be the pastor at Novesta Baptist Church near Deford. Later, with Andy Tallman, he started the Calvary Bible Church in Caro. For a number of years, he also sold Shaklee with his wife. George had a particular love for children's Christian camps and dedicated his plumbing and heating skills to help in the building of Camp Barakel in Fairview. He later served on the board and helped with the building of CoBeAc Camp in Prudenville. George is survived by two children, Patricia & Ernest Teller and George Robert & Rosa Harmon; five grandchildren, Nate & Julie Teller, Sabrina & Scott French, Varick & Tricia Teller, Kristi & Ross Bradbury, and Chad & Michele Harmon; eight great-grandchildren, Abby, Katie, Juliana, Ava, Teddy, Bennett, Halley and Emma; special friend, Beulah Green; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by all of his siblings, Grace, Helen, Art, Jean and Howard. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2020 at the Caro First Baptist Church with Pastor Marc Herron officiating. Burial will follow at a later time at the Elkland Township Cemetery in Cass City. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Caro First Baptist Church for children's camp scholarships or Wycliff Associates.
