Richard "Dick" A. Retzler, age 87, of Unionville, passed away May 28, 2023, at McLaren Bay Region, Bay City.
Dick was born June 17, 1935, in Pigeon, the son of the late Michael G. and Sidonia (Zahringer) Retzler. He married Joan B. (Knight) on May 12, 1956, in Sebewaing. She preceded him in death on November 4, 2016. He graduated from Owendale High School in 1953. After graduation, he worked on the family farm and then at the Defoe Shipyards in Bay City. He then became a Nabisco salesman and retired at the age of 58, after 28 years. He loved golfing and going on golfing trips with his wife, friends and family. They also enjoyed casino trips and visiting their cabin in Tawas. He was a devout Detroit Tigers fan since he began listening to them on the radio at age ten. He was also a Detroit Lions fan, was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Our Lady Consolata Parish, and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports at USA, and even liked to watch their practices. He was the best and sweetest husband, father and grandfather anyone could ever ask for. They say God only takes the best – He sure got a good one! We will miss him dearly.
Dick is survived by his son, Rick (Pam) Retzler of Caro; daughter, Lori (Mark) Zimmer of Unionville; grandchildren: Zach (Kristine) Retzler of Bay City, Gavin Zimmer of Bay City, Savannah Retzler of Caro and Landin Zimmer of Unionville; sister-in-law, Lilian Retzler; nieces and nephews: Larry, Terry, Garry, Jackie, Marlene, Christie, Pete, Don, Deb, Mike, Karen, Kathy and Raymond.
Welcoming him home with open arms and ready to play cards: sisters: Barb (Henry) VanHoost, June (Pete) Leiterman, and Marge (Jim) Galmish; brother: Don Retzler; and nieces: Karen, Cheryl and Margaret.
A special thank you goes to Shannon and Ashley for taking such good care of him.
